Chail – Road Trip to Summer Capital of Patiala Prince

The sleepy, verdant town in the Shivaliks has an interesting history behind its birth. After a tiff with Lord Kitchener, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala was denied entry into Shimla, the Summer capital of the British, he set up his very own Summer capital now known as Chail. After the royal palace was built, the village around it soon came into existence.

Beyond camels, sands, and sun, lies another world in Rajasthan- The world of Udaipur.

Surrounded by Aravallis and ornamented by lakes, romantic is the middle name for this place.   Udaipur might not be an ideal choice for an August Birthday, given the humidity and the sultry weather. Mashobra – The Serene Shimla

Wrapped in the mist, the verdant mountains of Mashobra have a charm of their own. Mashobra is a quaint town a few kilometers away from Shimla, connected through the historian Tibet Road built-in 1850 by Lord Dalhousie.

Dotted with pine, oak and cedar trees, covered in green foliage and adorned with wildflowers, the Himalayan town is in stark contrast to the busy city of Shimla. Tea Time in Palampur

No prizes for guessing that the ideal birthday celebration for a travel buff could be nowhere else but on the roads. But alas the pressures of adulting always put the heart and the mind at loggerheads. It was BAE’s birthday, so a trip was obvious. Abhishek and I braved the deadlines, client meetings, and pitches to pack our bags and hit the road with  Shera- our beloved Safari.
