Beautiful Bentota

The rays of sun patting your back and the golden sand caressing your feet was the perfect paradise in the Spring of March. After Mirissa beach, we headed to the beach town of Bentota.

We settled for a plush beach view resort that offered us king-size rooms and magnificent sea views.

Bentota offers many plush hotels and resorts and are the ideal places for sun and sand lovers.

  1. Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda: On our way to Mirissa, we stopped at the turtle hatchery at Kosgoda. So many species of turtles in one place were interesting to see. The Turtle Care Centre or the Turtle Hatchery at Kosgoda beach is one of 18 turtle hatcheries along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The center is located in the South Western coastal village of Kosgoda and was established in 1981. It is also very popular as all five species of turtles that visit Sri Lanka nest in Kosgoda.
  2. Madu Ganga River Safari: Madu Ganga River, surrounded by marshlands covered in mangrove forests, is rich in biodiversity. The Madu River passes through the wet zone of Sri Lanka, opening up into the large Madu Lagoon on its way to the Indian Ocean. The boat safari through the river is a must-do as the region is rich in wildlife. Many species of butterflies, reptiles, birds, crocodiles can be spotted on the journey. We also stopped at the cinnamon village, which is located at one of the islands. One can witness the making of the favorite cinnamon spice here and is famous for its spice heritage.
  3. Bentota Beach: The beaches at Bentota are clean and magnificent. You can also take the adventure route and opt for water sports. However, both Abhishek and I just wanted to laze around a little. We, in fact, went for the authentic Sri Lankan dinner, which was a combination of many curries and rice. The food tasted divine and so did the scenery.
  4. Moragalla Beach: Moragalla Beach is a big hit among beach lovers. The tranquil and pristine environment is not just a favorite destination of holiday lovers but also ideal for water sports such as snorkeling, windsurfing, etc.
  5. Dedduwa Lake: Located in the east of Bentota, the Dedduwa region, and is widely known for its beautiful water bodies, marshy lands, and Dedduwa lake. Visitors here often park themselves at the boathouses and villas to relax and soak the serene environment.
  6. Brief garden by Bevis Bawa: The beautiful Brief garden, designed by Bevis Bawa, is approximately 10 km from Bentota. The land sprawls over two hectares and is a pretty tropical garden inspired by the local traditions of Sri Lanka along with Italian and English landscapes.

This is all we could cover in our two days stay at Bentota. We suggest if you are a beach lover, choose to give it at least 3 to 4 days.

After all the great time in Bentota, we started for our next and final destination, Colombo, The capital city of Sri Lanka.
