Tirthan Valley is known for its gurgling streams, apple orchards, and majestic mountains. We had planned a 7 day trip to the place and next on our list was Chhoie or Choi Waterfall. We had already visited GNHP National Park and in the land full of streams visiting this local tourist spot was a must.
The Choi or Chhoie Waterfall
Choi or Chhoie waterfall is a major attraction in the Tirthan Valley. The waterfall lies Great Himalayan National Park and calls for a steep trek to the place. Mind you, what may seem to be just a waterfall for us, is in fact place of worship for the locals. So one must avoid littering at these places.
The Scenic Trek
The trek to the Chhoie or Choi waterfall begins at the Nagini village. It is a 45-minute uphill trek. One needs to climb the steep rocks and pass through steep mountains, dense forests to reach the Chhoie waterfall. It is advisable to start the trek in broad day and come back during day time for safety reasons.
As you know we staying at Gushaini and on that particular day, post our meals, both Abhishek and I were in a mood to explore. So we walked down to Nagini village from Gushaini and started our trek. By the way, local buses or taxis to ply in the area.
The picturesque trek turns uphill at first and at places becomes downhill. Post 45 minute trek we reached the Chhoie waterfall. While the journey was awesome, the destination was literally a pic out of the jungle book.
The sound of the Chhoie waterfall’s crystal clear stream falling on the rocks took the breath away. Green bushes surrounded the pristine roaring water. You can also choose to take a bath here, though we did not.
After ample viewgasms, we headed back. The downhill climb was much smoother and faster and by the time we reached, we realized our continuous two-day trek had made our legs wobbly.
Despite that, we continued walking and reached our homestay by late evening. We were starving and a yummy dinner was waiting for us. We were starving and even the simple meal tasted delicious.
